If you are preparing stir-fry, be sure to slice the meat on the bias and very thin. This can take a lot of time and be hard. Cut your meat as it is still a little frozen and cut it at a forty five degree angle, with the bias.

TIP! Slowly stir corn starch into simmering sauce to thicken. In a small bowl, combine two tablespoons of water and 3 teaspoons of corn starch.

Stir-fry meat needs to be sliced thin, on the bias. This technique is somewhat tricky and can take a little time. When the meat is stiff but not frozen, take it out and slice immediately across the grain at a slight angle.

When not in use, put your spices in an area that receives the lowest amount of light and heat. Spices will last longer when they are not exposed to warm temperatures and moist air. Spices last longer and taste better when stored in cool, dark locations. Your food will be even more delicious if your spices are fresher.

When trying a new seasoning for your meat, season one small piece and sample prior to cooking the entire batch of meat. A lot of dishes require you to season the meat with care. Cook only a portion of the food prior to seasoning the entire dish. You should make a small patty first. You can adjust the seasoning if you don’t like it.

If you want to slice meat into thin strips, freeze it partially before bringing it to the cutting board. If you are cooking an exotic dish that requires thinly sliced meat, this is the best way to do it. When you slightly freeze the meat, the fibers don’t extend as easily, and therefore slicing is much cleaner. However, so they are evenly cooked, you want to make certain the meat strips are thawed before cooking.

TIP! While it may be tempting to show off your culinary talents when entertaining a new love-interest or your boss, you will do best if you keep to a menu you are familiar with, and has already garnered rave reviews. Never experiment with a new ingredient or recipe in this situation.

Sharp knives will make cooking so much more efficient. Not only can it be difficult to cut with dull knives, but it is dangerous to use them too. It is easy to cut yourself if you are using a dull knife than slicing it with a very sharp one.

Texture and taste don’t have to suffer when you are trying to lighten up your mashed potatoes. Cauliflower makes for a great substitute to help drop the fat and calorie content. Cauliflower tends to have a bland taste, so this will blend nicely with the potatoes, and will pick up other ingredients, as well. Room Renovation

I’m planning my room renovation and I kind of hate the carpet in my room, could I just rip it off and then put in a hardwood floor, or something other than carpet? Also, how would I do it. I was so glad to find this — Yes, you can rip up the carpeting and replace it with either hardwood or engineered wood flooring. It’s really not that simple. First of all, after you rip up all the carpeting and padding, you need to remove the tack strips around the periphery of your room. The nails are sharp and they’re difficult to work with. You also need to remove mostly all staple (used to install the padding) from your floor. If you’re planning on genuine, 3/4″ hardwood flooring, your floor needs to be absolutely level. A moisture barrier needs to go down over the underlayment. After allowing the hardwood flooring to adjust to the room temperature and humidity they will be installed in, you will need to nail each strip into place with a pneumatic floor nailer, making sure all seams are tight. Engineered hardwood is a little more forgiving and is more easily installed by the homeowner. Still, there are things you still need to do, like leveling your floor and putting down the moisture barrier. You can find out the details at a flooring store if you’re determined to tackle this project yourself. I do not recommend you try to put down 3/4″ hardwood flooring. Leave this one to the professionals.

When all of us moved into our crappy house at college, we decided to redo our rooms to make them a bit more liveable. Except for Kevin, who is lazy. Kevin ju. . .
